Secure Hard Drive Destruction

Using the highest level destruction equipment as well as CESG approved destruction equipment, environmental solutions can destroy all the information held on hard drives and other associated media to ensure that none of your companies confidential data gets out as well as helping you keep compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

DATA DESTRUCTION SERVICE LEVELS

Level 1 (Minimum service level) - High security shredding with Certificate of Destruction

  • Environmental Solutions make the collection, secure destruction collection note completed stating numbers collected.
  • The Hard drives (HDD’s) are then brought back to our secure facility in Newbury.
  • The HDD’s are removed from the PC/laptop then shredded using our HSM hard drive shredder, rendering the hard drives unusable.
  • A Certificate of Destruction is then produced and emailed to the client.
  • Normal full WEEE documentation provided with duty of care and certificate of destruction but no asset listing.
Level 2 (Premium) - Fully itemised high security shredding

  • Environmental Solutions make the collection, secure destruction collection note completed stating numbers collected.
  • The Hard drives (HDD’s) are then brought back to our secure facility in Newbury.
  • Asset list reports of all serial numbers / asset tags are then logged.
  • The HDD’s are removed from the PC/laptop then shredding using our HSM hard drive shredder, rendering the hard drives unusable
  • Certificate of Destruction with asset listing is raised, along with all normal WEEE documentation.
Level 3 (Platinum service) - Secure, witnessed 1st phase on-site degaussing and 2nd phase off-site shredding

  • A representative from Environmental Solutions will arrive on-site on a pre-arranged day along with our CESG approved Verity degausser.
  • Hard drives (HDD’s) will be kept in a separate area from any other equipment.
  • HDD’s are then removed from PC’s/laptops, serial numbers logged and degaussed.
  • Once all HDD’s have been degaussed, a primary Certificate of Destruction with Asset listing is presented to the client prior to leaving site.
  • The hard drives are removed from site and brought back to our secure facility where they are mechanically shredded into fragments.
  • The remains are then processed for physical recycle.
  • All normal WEEE documentation is provided.
What is a Degausser? How Do Degaussers Work?
Degaussing – a form of demagnetizing – is the process wherein a magnetic object, such as a computer tape, hard disk drive, or CRT monitor, is exposed to a magnetic field of greater, fluctuating intensity. A degausser is the machine that produces this intense magnetic field. When exposed to a fluctuating magnetic field produced by a degausser, the magnetic charge of an object is reset to a magnetically neutral state, rendering the Hard drive unusable.
What is a Shredder? How does a Shredder Work?
Our dedicated hard drive shredder is a slowly driven, high torque output machine with double shredding shafts. Hard drives are loaded into a chamber where it is slowly pulled into the teeth of shredding blades and shredded down to small fragments averaging a thumb nail size. The hard drives ends up completly obliterated as well as being mixed in with thousands of similar hard drive fragments. The end goal being that the data cannot be retrieved nor can the hard drive ever be used again. Shredding also helps with the recycling process by being an initial phase in segregating out the various materials that make up drive.
